"Breaking Boundaries: the Art of Alex Masket" with panel discussion followed by a reception and exhibition opening in the Jane Peck Gallery, Wed. Feb. 8 at 7:15 pm.
"ReelAbilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival 2012" opens with Gotham Award winner Girlfriend, Thurs. Feb. 9 at 7:30 pm. Special guest added! Evan Sneider, lead actor in the film, will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.
Our "NT Live" series continues with a live broadcast of Travelling Light, Thurs. Feb. 9 at 2:00 pm.

Breaking Boundaries: the Art of Alex Masket Wed. Feb. 8 at 7:15 pm A self-taught artist, Alex Masket makes dynamic work with unconventional media and an uninhibited, bold use of color. His creativity and sophisticated understanding of light, color, and form are unconstrained by his severe autism, which does inhibit his ability to communicate verbally. Masket’s work has appeared in more than a dozen solo and group shows and in Esopus and other magazines. This award-winning short documentary both introduces us to this extraordinary artist and asks what artistic communication and the creative impulse are all about. Followed by a discussion with of Arc of Westchester Executive Director Richard P. Swierat and autism advocate Elaine Masket (Alex’s mother), moderated by Dr. Beth Mount, a consultant who helps others see capacities in people with disabilities. | Spring '12 Classes and Workshops There are over 50 courses and workshops going on this semester at the Media Arts Lab! There's still time to register for exciting programs for kids, teens, and adults! • Seeing Stories (ages 4-7) shows young children how to use their imaginations to create, tell, and act out their own stories. • Experiments in Media (ages 8-18) teaches the foundations of the filmmaking process. • Interactive Media Art (ages 12-13) shows students cutting edge software to combine film and music into something completely unique. • Getting the Shot (ages 14-18) is a hands-on camera workshop where students learn style and composition. • Creating a Web Series (ages 14-18) allows students to collaborate with others and launch their own online series! • Film Style and Form: An Introduction (college & adult) lets students learn, watch, and read the visual vocabulary of film language. • Digital Storytelling (college & adult) shows students how to use a digital camera in new and exciting ways!
