Interns/Volunteers
for "Animation:
Minds in Motion!"
Animation: Minds in Motion!,
is an animator-in-residence program, which introduces fourth grade
students to the art and magic of animation. The 12-workshop program
introduces the concepts of optical illusions, zoetropes, and storyboarding,
and culminates in the children's own original production. During
the latter eight workshops, the youths collaborate to write, storyboard,
direct and shoot their own animated cutout stop-motion films. The
culmination of the program is a red-carpet premiere of the films
at the Jacob Burns Film Center for the students, and their friends
and families.
All of the sessions are run by Joseph Summerhays,
a professional animator and educational software developer who
designed the curriculum.
Experience with children is a must, and experience
with art or animation is a bonus, but not a requirement! If you

Educational Facilitators - Interns and
Volunteers Needed
Assist with the innovative visual literacy program for third grade students:
See • Hear • Feel • Film.
This one-of-a-kind education initiative aims to help third grade students become
more active viewers of visual media and lead more examined lives. The program
uses film to spark students' creative expression and storytelling skills, while
helping them write with clarity, confidence and joy.
See • Hear • Feel • Film is
a curriculum-based program that piloted January-May, 2002. During
the 2004-2005 school year, over 28 elementary schools from throughout
Westchester County will visit the JBFC twice for two-hour workshops.
During the workshops, students view and discuss short films from
around the world and creatively collaborate in small groups to practice
the tools filmmakers use to tell stories.
The workshops are led by Anne Marie Santoro, an
award winning program designer and producer of educational media
and national school and community outreach projects. Anne Marie is
President of From the Heart Communications. She is the session leader
on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Barbara DeGeorge, a master teacher with
35 years of experience teaching in the Mt. Vernon School District,
is the session leader on Wednesdays.
Interns and volunteers are needed for technical
and logistical assistance as well as to lead small group activities
as Educational Facilitators. The time commitment is flexible. Workshops
are held at the Film Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 9:30-11:30 and 12:15-2:15. If you are interested in learning
