Get grounded in the creative world of nonfiction filmmaking in this hands-on class.
• Collaborate on weekly in-class group projects.
• Learn the basic technical and visual skills of interviewing, shooting, directing, and editing.
• View and discuss films and clips of seminal works.
• Work with HD cameras, Final Cut Pro, and more.
• Explore different narrative techniques, formats, and professional terms essential to documentary.

REEL CHANGE FOR NONPROFITS
Learn to use visual content to strengthen your organization’s ability to communicate its message. JBFC faculty member Theresa Dawson will teach you how to make public service announcements (PSAs) and short films an effective part of your advocacy work.
• Learn to write a script and then shoot and edit your own project.
• No experience necessary.
• Recommended for organizational teams of 2.

Are you making a fiction or documentary film, a digital story, or embarking on a series of webisodes? This is the place to share your works-in-progress. Be part of a creative community!
• For those working in any digital medium: video, audio, interactive, or multimedia.
• Be mentored by our faculty, and receive feedback from your peers.
• Watch clips, workshop your projects, and learn new production skills.
• Enjoy access to our facilities and cameras.
• Projects can be in any stage of the process, from pre- to postproduction.

Learn, watch, and discuss as we explore great world cinema and the language of film through late-20th-century and contemporary films from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Master the fundamentals of Apple’s Final Cut Pro, the industry-standard editing software. After you understand the power of editing, you’ll never watch a film the same way again.
• Learn basic system setup, and assemble and cut footage.
• Find out about the most effective ways to manage workflow and organize files.
• Enjoy access to editing suites outside of class time.
• No editing experience necessary. Working knowledge of Macs is required. Familiarity with video is recommended.
