EXPERIMENTS IN MEDIA
Stretch your imagination. Explore character, place, light, time, sound, and composition as you create a series of hands-on projects using the state-of-the-art tools at the Lab. This course provides a fantastic introduction to the many possibilities of creative media making.
• Discover the possibilities of filmmaking and beyond.
• Work with live-action video, 2-D and 3-D animation, interactive media and design, sound recording,
motion graphics, digital photography, and more.
• Use HD video and software such as Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, Flash, Dragonframe, and Photoshop.
• Every semester ends with a screening and exhibition for family and friends!
• Also offered for Grades 3-4 and Grades 9-12.
Experiments in Media explores different themes, skills, and styles every semester. Together, two semesters of Experiments in Media provide a solid foundation in story and craft.

PROJECTS IN MEDIA: ANIMATION
Advance your skills and explore the great art of animation through challenging and creative stop-motion collaborations! Every semester offers new creative challenges. Take Projects in Media again and again!
• Use clay, chalk, paper, sand, and live action to create animated stories.
• Build small sets and 3-D set-ups.
• Record original dialog and sound.
• Prerequisites: Two semesters of Experiments in Media or a minimum of two courses at the Media Arts Lab.

PROJECTS IN MEDIA: FILMMAKING
Take your creative and technical skills to the next level as you spend the whole semester producing a collaborative film project. Every semester offers new creative challenges. Take Projects in Media again and again!
• Write, storyboard, shoot, edit, and score.
• Use everything the state-of-the-art Media Arts Lab offers, including the sound stage, recording studio, HD cameras, and digital tools.
• Learn advanced features of Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, Photoshop, After Effects, and more.
• Prerequisites: Two semesters of Experiments in Media or a minimum of two courses at the Media Arts Lab.

ADVENTURES IN MEDIA: INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING
Focus on creating multi-screen projects, installations, video sculptures, and interactive design.
• Create worlds, invent characters, and build media environments.
• Experiment with live video and sound.
• Explore software like Max and Ableton Live, or hack into the XBox.
• Make short, challenging projects.
• Use HD cameras, the recording studio, and everything else the Lab has to offer.
• Prerequisites: Two semesters of Experiments in Media or a minimum of two courses at the Media Arts Lab.

ADVENTURES IN MEDIA: DIGITAL MUSIC
Create and record original sound and music projects. Bring your own instrument, try new ones, and learn how to communicate through music and sound.
• Experiment with sounds found in the world and in the studio.
• Learn how to run a professional recording studio and operate the mixing board.
• Use a variety of music and sound software.
• Create microphone and speaker set-ups for multi-tracking.
• Experiment with MIDI keyboards, effects, samples, software sequencers, and mixers.
• No prior musical experience necessary!
• Prerequisites: Two semesters of Experiments in Media or a minimum of two courses at the Media Arts Lab.

ADVENTURES IN MEDIA: FILM IN VIRTUAL WORLDS
Start with the same platforms used in video-game creation to make visual stories and virtual worlds.
• Explore real-time 3-D computer graphics, rendering, and game engines.
• Make short, challenging machinima projects.
• Build cinematic virtual worlds and environments.
• No prior motion graphics experience necessary!
• Prerequisites: Two semesters of Experiments in Media or a minimum of two courses at the Media Arts Lab.

• Create microphone and speaker set-ups for multi-tracking.
• Experiment with MIDI keyboards, effects, samples, software sequencers, and mixers.
• Learn how to run a professional recording studio, from working the mixing board to setting up microphones.
• Use a variety of music-making software like Protools, Ableton Live, and GarageBand.
• Bring samples, instruments, or voices and leave with an original recording.
• No musical experience necessary!
