General Info for the Public

Tour the Lab
Take a free tour of the Media Arts Lab and learn about all the programs being offered this spring and all the programs being offered this summer. Each participant receives one free pass to a regular screening at the JBFC Theater that night. Meet in the lobby of the Media Arts Lab at 5:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month. Tours last approximately 30 minutes. No preregistration is required.

Facility and Equipment Use
The Media Arts Lab houses state-of-the-art production facilities and filmmaking equipment that is available for the exclusive use of those currently enrolled in Lab programs.

  • Program participants are expected to treat the facilities and equipment with the highest degree of care. If an instructor deems that a participant has intentionally misused the facilities or equipment, he/she will be asked to withdraw and will not be permitted to register for future programs at the Lab.
  • If work is required outside of program time, participants are encouraged to use their own camera and computer, if compatible with the Lab’s equipment. The Media Art Lab’s equipment and editing facilities are also available for use on assigned projects. All associated costs are included in the program fee.
  • To borrow equipment or use the Editing Studio outside program time, the participant's parent/guardian must sign an Equipment and Facilities Usage Contract, which sets forth the rules and makes him/her financially responsible for the equipment. The contract is available from the instructor.
  • The Media Arts Lab is a fully air-conditioned, smoke-free facility.
  • Food and drink are prohibited in the production and screening areas.

The Media Arts Lab registrar’s office is open Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm. The Lab production facilities are open for program participants working on assigned projects according to a schedule posted at the beginning of every semester. The building is closed on all major holidays.
