Registration Info for Individuals
There are three convenient ways to register:
|
Pricing and Payment
- JBFC Members receive a 10% discount on all programs if participant is the member of record or in a household with a membership at the Family level or higher.
- A $10 registration fee is payable per person per program. This fee is waived for all programs $50 and under and for all JBFC members. (Participant must be member of record.)
- Payment, which is due in full at time of registration, is accepted via credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express) or check (payable to JACOB BURNS FILM CENTER, INC.) A fee of $25 is charged for returned checks.
Enrollment
- Enrollment is complete only after all fees have been paid; a completed Registration Form and Scholarship Application (if applicable) have been submitted; and you have received a confirmation email.
- Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If your requested program is filled, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified if space becomes available.
- The JBFC/Media Arts Lab reserves the right to cancel a program to insufficient enrollment or other circumstances. If a program is cancelled, registrants will be notified immediately and all fees will be refunded. The JBFC/Media Arts Lab cannot be held responsible for any other costs, charges, or expenses.
Scholarships
Spaces are reserved in every program for those who demonstrate financial need. We encourage everyone to seek the support that will allow them to participate in Media Arts Lab programs. Download a Scholarship Application (pdf) and submit it with your Registration Form (pdf).
Inclement Weather and Make-Up Classes
- In the event of inclement weather, please call 914.773.7663, ext. 444, for an automated message, or check the website.
- If a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, there will be a make-up session scheduled based on the availability of the facility and the instructor. The JBFC/Media Arts Lab does not offer make-up classes or tuition reimbursement for student absenteeism.
Benefits
Participants will be given a Media Arts Lab ID, which enables those who are not already JBFC members to purchase tickets at the member price (at the box office only) for the duration of the program. Nonmembers enrolled in one-time or weekend workshops will be given passes to two JBFC events at the member price. Members receive a variety of benefits including waived registration fees, a 10% tuition discount at some levels, and discounted tickets at the JBFC Theater. Join now!
Refunds
If a participant is asked to leave a program due to inappropriate behavior or other circumstances deemed necessary by the JBFC/Media Arts Lab, no refund will be given. If a participant chooses to withdraw and does so in writing three weeks before the first session, 100% of the program fee will be refunded but the registration fee will be retained and an additional $10 cancellation fee will be charged. If the JBFC/Media Arts Lab cancels a program due to insufficient enrollment or other administrative reasons, all fees will be refunded. No refund will be given at any other time.

To register for a program, please use the Group Registration Form. We encourage participants to register as far in advance as possible, as programs fill quickly.
Financial Assistance
The JBFC will waive the participation fee and reimburse all transportation costs for schools and organizations that have demonstrated financial need. We offer this assistance to groups in which a minimum of 35% of students qualify for a free or reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program. The information we use is published annually by the New York State Department of Education. We encourage all schools, regardless of financial circumstances, to participate in our programs and we will do our best to meet your needs.
Schools Paying for Services
Upon submitting a Group Registration Form, the person listed as the school contact will receive email confirmation and invoice. A 20% deposit is due upon receipt of the invoice to secure registration. The balance is due by the start of the program. Payment may be made by check only, made payable to Jacob Burns Film Center, Inc. No cash is accepted.
In the event that a group must cancel a program, and notifies the JBFC/Media Arts Lab with two weeks advance notice, 100% of the program fee will be refunded. With less than two weeks notice, the 20% deposit will not be refunded.
Schools that are BOCES component districts are able to submit program expenses to the Arts in Education service to receive state aid for student programs as well as teacher training. This process is handled directly through BOCES.
Program fees cover less than 25% of the program costs. The remainder is made possible by support from membership, corporations, foundations, and individuals.
Benefits for Educators
As a way of expressing our gratitude and to support the JBFC community, the educators that participate in our programs will receive a Media Arts Lab ID. The ID will grant the membership benefit of discounted member-priced tickets at the JBFC Theater for the duration of their participation.
Facility Policy
Schools are expected to provide sufficient student supervision by arranging for one adult (teacher, parent, or chaperone) for every 15 students. For groups of students with special needs, we suggest bringing one adult for every nine students. There is no facility available for students to eat lunch. Students are expected to treat the facilities and equipment with the highest degree of care. If an instructor deems that a student has intentionally misused the facilities or equipment, the school/organization will be held financially responsible.
Photography and Publicity
Photographs, videotaping, and filming of the JBFC/Media Arts Lab activities and programs are used for publicity and/or in promotion of the JBFC/Media Arts Lab. Those who do not want to be photographed or filmed for any purposes are asked to submit a written statement to the registrar.
Transportation
Participating teachers are responsible for making all necessary reservations and arrangements for bus transportation to the JBFC and the Media Arts Lab. Please allow ample time for travel, unloading, and loading.
***Schools that qualify for financial assistance may have the bus company or transportation department invoice sent to JBFC. The JBFC will make payment as directed on the invoice.
