Stretch your imagination. Investigate character, place, light, time, sound, and composition as you create a series of hands-on projects using the state-of-the-art tools at the Lab. This course provides a fantastic introduction to the filmmaking process.
- Discover the possibilities of filmmaking and beyond.
- Work with live-action video, 2-D and 3-D animation, interactive media and design, sound recording, motion graphics, digital photography, and more.
- Use HD video and software such as Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, Flash, Dragon Stop Motion, and Photoshop.
- Every semester culminates with a screening and exhibition for family and friends!

Experiments in Media focuses on a different theme each semester. In Spring 2012 we highlight the concept of space, with creative explorations of scale, composition, depth, framing, setting, and more. Together, any two semesters of Experiments in Media provide a solid foundation in story and craft.

Projects in Media

Take your creative and technical skills to the next level as you investigate dynamic modes of storytelling and integrated media.
- Conceive and collaborate to create in-depth films and multimedia projects.
- Use everything the state-of-the-art Media Arts Lab offers, including the Sound Stage, Recording Studio, HD cameras, and digital tools.
- Learn new ways to incorporate sound and graphics into your storytelling.
- Explore advanced features of Final Cut Pro, Flash, GarageBand, Photoshop, After Effects, and more.
- Every semester culminates with a screening and exhibition for family and friends!

- Prerequisites: Two semesters of Experiments in Media or a minimum of two courses at the Media Arts Lab.

If you can imagine it, you can make it happen in the Lab’s Animation Studio!
- Create stop-motion animated films using clay, paper, sand, and other materials.
- Invent your own characters and creatures, and bring them to life.
- Record voiceovers in the Recording Studio, choose sound effects, and compose original music using GarageBand.
- Star in a live-action stop-motion film.
- Class size: 9
