Cyrus

“New Releases”

"Amuses and unnerves in equal measure. A comedy of discomfort that walks a wonderful line between reality-based emotional honesty and engaging humor, it demonstrates the good things that happen when quirky independent style combines with top-of-the-line acting skill." (LA Times)

With John's social life at a standstill and his ex-wife about to get remarried, a down-on-his-luck divorcée (John C. Reilly) finally meets the woman of his dreams (Marisa Tomei), only to discover she has another man in her life—her son, Cyrus. Using the innovative improvisational techniques that have earned them critical accolades and a devoted following, Jay and Mark Duplass enter the mainstream with a touching, original story that blends humor and heartbreak.

Rise Up

“Sounds of Summer: New Music Documentaries”

An eye-opening look at Turbulence, Ice Anastasia, and a beautiful, unbelievably gifted girl named Kemoy, three very different up-and-coming musicians from three distinct areas of Jamaica: the downtown Kingston slums, an opulent uptown mansion, and the countryside. With talent to spare, the artists need luck, hard work, and courage to succeed in this competitive, music-obsessed country.

Luciano Blotta. 2009. 88 m. NR. US.
