Méliès and Company: Sleight-of-Hand from Stage to Screen

Movies for Kids (and their Families)

Magician Benjamin Levy has awed audiences around the world with his dazzling shows and we could have no better guide for this exciting exploration of magic and the movies. Levy will explain how stage magicians of the late Victorian era paved the way for the beginnings of movie magic with their special effects. He’ll show us A Trip to the Moon by the extraordinary innovator Georges Méliès, along with other early short films. Levy promises to demonstrate some jaw-dropping magic of his own, too!

Presented in conjunction with the Hudson River Museum, whose exhibition “Gilded Age Magic” will be on view through Sept. 9.
