Metropolis

Special Events

The Alloy Orchestra, “fast becoming the country’s leading avant-garde interpreter of silent films” (New York Times) joins us again to perform its spectacular score!

One of the most thrilling nights we’ve ever offered is back for an encore. A silent film masterpiece, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis was destined for fame from the moment it was released. But shortly after its 1927 premiere, a huge chunk of it was removed and then thought to be lost forever. Then, in an incredible stroke of luck, a print with the missing footage was found in Buenos Aires 81 years later. The digitally restored version is a revelation.

Sponsored by the Westchester Community Foundation and made possible through The Rudyard and Emanuella Reimss Fund, dedicated to promoting Germanic culture in Westchester County. This screening is part of the series Masters of German Culture, highlighting great works by German artists.

Fritz Lang. 1927. 149 m. NR. Germany, Silent with music. Kino/Lorber.

Searching for Sugar Man

New Releases

"An electrifying illustration of music's power to inspire and change lives on both sides of the footlights."

Academy Award Nominee for Documentary Feature

The greatest '70s rock icon that you've never heard of, Rodriguez's albums were critically well-received, but bombed on the U.S. charts. While he faded into obscurity in the States, his legend grew in South Africa, where a bootleg copy of his album made it to the airwaves and quickly became a phenomenal success. The film follows two of Rodriguez's biggest fans, who travel to the U.S. in hopes of finding out what happened to the singer whose anti-establishment message connected with them during the dark days of apartheid. Searching for Sugar Man is a story of hope, inspiration, and the resonating power of music.
