Every month, we give our JBFC Film Club subscribers comment cards they may fill out if they are not able to stay for the evening’s discussion or would like to add further to an ongoing discussion. We’ve collected a few recent comments here. Current subscribers, email us additional comments—or continue the discussion on our Facebook page! Here are some comments from the current season:
Comments on the recent film selection, Martha Marcy May Marlene, directed by Sean Durkin (USA)
“I’m glad it was shown because it is getting a lot of buzz… I would probably not see this on my own, which is the whole point of the film club.”
“I think the audience was too hard on you and the movie. Not every movie has a happy ending or everything tied up in a bow. It’s a great opportunity for a film club to get this preview.”
“This film does a masterful job making me really uncomfortable. But I don’t like story-telling that leaves so much ambiguity…”
Comments on the recent film selection, The Artist, directed by Michel Hazanavicius (France)
“Hearing that we were going to see a silent film gave me pause. It took me a bit to get into it and then I really did enjoy it.”
“Better than I thought. Hard to sit through a silent film though.”
“A truly entertaining and fun film. I really loved the camera work and use of sound.”
Comments on the recent film selection, Carnage, directed by Roman Polanski (France/Germany/Poland)
“Nice dark comedy – well played by all. Typically Polanski-ish, with comedy leavening cynicism.”
“Felt terribly artificial, improbable. Liked the actors and performances despite the very-talky script.”
“Very glad to see it, having loved the play… good choice for Film Club.”
