Ninth Anniversary Celebration

honoring Julie Taymor and Arthur J. Samberg
June 12, 2010

On June 12, we celebrated our Ninth Anniversary with a gala celebration and awards dinner. All proceeds from this annual event benefit JBFC education and outreach programs, serving over 12,000 students each year. Of these students, over 50% reside in underserved communities and their participation is fully subsidized by the Film Center.

With nearly 300 guests in attendance, the evening began with a lively cocktail reception in the Media Arts Lab featuring three unique spaces, each stylized to represent different genres of film:  Film Noir, Classic French Cinema and a jazz concert documentary. Films were projected large in each space to provide an atmospheric backdrop along with genre-specific decor. Guests then moved to the tent for a seated dinner and awards presentations.

The JBFC Vision Award was presented to Julie Taymor, Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated director; and the Leadership Award to Arthur J. Samberg, JBFC Board Chairman Emeritus and current board member. Guests were treated to a sneak preview of Ms. Taymor’s new film, The Tempest, to be released this fall, and to a surprise opening performance by Mike Posner, American producer, singer and rapper signed to J Records and the nephew of honoree Art Samberg. Also presented during the evening was a JBFC student-made award-winning film and a slide show presenting the full scope of JBFC's innovative education programs.

The JBFC would like to thank  the many donors and guests in attendance who helped make this year’s event a wonderful success. Plans are already in the works for next year when we will mark our 10th anniversary with an extraordinary gala celebration and other special events throughout the year. Tenth Anniversary corporate sponsorship information and other details will be available this fall.
